Bonnie L. McIntyre, PhD, LICSW, LCSW-C, LCSW
Affiliation: Catholic University of America
Dr. Bonnie L. McIntyre, LICSW is a clinical social worker having researched and provided intervention in spaces of the commercial sex industry since 2009. She has engaged in international social work practice to assist survivors of trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) in the countries of Cambodia and Indonesia as part of multi-disciplinary teams of social workers and law enforcement agencies to investigate and intervene in trafficking cases. Her proficiency in providing technical assistance to anti-trafficking projects internationally has expanded to include a portfolio of programs operating in Mozambique and Malawi, Africa, additional areas of Cambodia and Indonesia, and throughout the U.S., such as in Chicago, Mississippi, and now Washington, DC.
During her work to assist in creating an inaugural aftercare facility to support survivors of CSE in Indonesia, Dr. McIntyre created a conceptual analysis tool entitled The Trafficking Progression Framework (TPF) to assist aftercare facilities in conducting the initial assessment of child survivors of CSE upon exit from exploitation using an ecological systems theory methodological framework. The tool was introduced at the International Consortium for Social Development Asia Pacific Conference in Yogjakarta, Indonesia and published as a peer reviewed article in the Journal of International Social Work.
To fulfill the requirements of her PhD in social work practice through the Catholic University of America, Dr. McIntyre designed and implemented a qualitative research study to explore the ideological conceptualizations and activist strategies of faith-based, evangelical Christian organizations providing interventions to individuals engaged in the commercial sex industry utilizing approaches alternative to abolitionism. The outcome of the study was to identify lessons learned and best practices for faith-based agencies in working with sex industry populations.
Dr. McIntyre is currently situated in Washington, DC and providing social work services to populations experiencing homelessness and engaged in the street-based sex industry.
