Nida Qamar, MSc, BDS, PhD(c)

Nida Qamar is a dentist, public health educator, and researcher, currently completing her PhD in Community Health Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She holds a Master of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and brings more than a decade of interdisciplinary experience across academic, community, humanitarian, and international settings. In these roles, she contributed to community and public health assessments, gender and health research, program development and evaluation, and initiatives addressing gender-based violence, refugee family reintegration, mental health, and child protection. She has also authored country gender profiles for multiple Arab nations.

As a public health educator and researcher, Qamar has served as instructor of record for undergraduate courses in Global Health, Personal Health, Immigrant & Refugee Health, Mental Health & Well-being, and Introduction to Public Health. Her professional interests focus on human trafficking as a public health issue, particularly among foreign-born and other vulnerable populations, as well as health equity, migration, refugee and immigrant health, and the social and structural determinants of health. Her current research examines how health educators can be mobilized as an important workforce for the prevention and response to human trafficking. Her scholarly work also includes research on the health of migrants in transit in the Americas and the social determinants of health among older Afghan refugees and evacuees in the United States. She is a first author on research examining the role of health education specialists in identifying and supporting foreign-born victims of trafficking and has presented her work at national and regional public health conferences. Her long-term research agenda centers on developing systems-based approaches to human trafficking prevention and response and strengthening connections among public health, education, health care, and human service systems.
