Human trafficking, substance misuse, and addiction are deeply interconnected issues that often reinforce each other in complex and devastating ways. These interconnecting issues have implications for providers working in various professions, such as social work, counseling, substance misuse, public health, and criminal justice. This training will explore the multifaceted relationship between these challenges, examining how substance use can be both a vulnerability factor for exploitation and a tool of control used by traffickers. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the current empirical literature regarding how trauma, addiction, and victimization intersect.
