Benefits of Nature Therapy for Trauma Recovery

Nature therapy is an emerging category of wellness interventions that leverages the mental and physical effects of interaction with nature to improve health. A growing body of evidence supports nature therapy practices — such as horticulture therapy, outdoor mindfulness and group hikes — as effective for anxiety, depression and overall cardiovascular health. This breakout session introduces participants to the history and research behind the growing movement, as well as simple practices that can be shared by professionals in fields ranging from business and education to health care. Nature therapy for trauma recovery and potential applications with survivors of human trafficking will be a special focus of this session.
