Between Culture and Care: Navigating Mental Health in Latina Communities

Join this session on how mental health is perceived and experienced within Latino/a communities, and how those perceptions influence help-seeking behaviors among youths, immigrants and first-generation individuals. We’ll examine the cultural values that shape these views, such as familismo, respeto and machismos, as well as the structural and systemic challenges that complicate access to care. Blending personal narratives and real data, this session will offer a contextualized, human-centered understanding of mental health needs in the Latino/a community. Participants will walk away with practical strategies for communication, culturally grounded support practices, and policy or prevention recommendations that bridge the gap between culture and care.
