The Intersectionality of Abuse: How Abusers Exploit Differences in Gender, Race, and Sexuality As Coercive Control

While the majority of IPV cases involve male abusers and female victims, this does not hold true for every case.

Both abusers and survivors come from every demographic, and abusers will use any and every tool for control available to them, including community ideas surrounding sexuality, race, and gender. Wherever a power dynamic exists, abusers will exploit it.

In this webinar, attendees will learn how to:

  • Recognize the more subtle (and not-so-subtle) ways abusers of all stripes weaponize their victims’ identities as part of their campaign of coercive control.

  • Appreciate and help mitigate the specific difficulties faced by male survivors of female abusers.

  • Take the whole of an abuser’s specific tactics into consideration when looking for patterns or assisting survivors with safety planning.
